Wood Products

Nothing can imitate the natural beauty of wood but there are things that need to be considered.

Moisture Content:
Most commercial sawmills dry their lumber to 19% moisture content. This works fine for framing lumber and some exterior applications but not for everything.

Species:
Different species of wood will expand and contract at varying degrees. We will ask specific questions about the finished application of your project to help recommend the species, conditioning and insulation that will work best.

Grades Of Lumber:

There are a number of different grades of lumber from clear vertical grain to pallet grade. Framing lumber will eventually be covered up and is graded for strength more than appearance. Selected grades are available for use where they aesthetics are important. We know the questions to ask to make sure the grade of products meet the desired end result.

Exterior Staining:
Lumber is comprised of cells, that when dried, collapse as water is extracted either in a kiln or by mother nature. The cells will take one the finish applied and hold that finish in direct proportion to the extent the finish is absorbed.

Factory Pre-staining of exterior lumber will give the highest absorption rate and will coat the product on all sides for greater stability, resulting in a longer stain life.
